Audio problems

No sound in your music software? Check these first.

Start here

Check where your headphones or speakers are plugged in. Make sure your music software sends sound to that device, then check the mute buttons and output settings. Try these checks before reinstalling software or buying equipment.

1. Where are your headphones plugged in?

If your software uses an audio interface, check the headphones or speakers connected to that interface. Audio may not reach your computer's headphone jack, especially when using the interface's ASIO driver on Windows.

  • Start at a low listening level and raise it slowly.
  • Check cables and mute controls on the listening device and interface.

2. Is the right audio device selected?

Open the Audio or Audio Device settings in your music software. Select the device your headphones or speakers are connected to. Menu names vary by app and version; Ableton Live users can follow the setup guide linked below.

  • Note the current selection before changing it.
  • If the computer cannot see the interface, check its connection and the manufacturer's driver for that model.

3. Moving meters, but no sound?

Compare the volume meters on each track with the main output meter to see where the signal stops.

  • Track meter moves, but the main meter does not: check where the track sends its sound.
  • Main meter moves: check the output channels and the connected speakers or headphones.
  • Check Mute and Solo buttons, which can silence some tracks.
